Jan 2018 – Whitstable Society Update

We aim to get a Newsletter out soon. Meantime please note:

1. Our next open meeting at the Castle will be on Wed 17th January at 7.15pm. We will be joined by Mark Harrison who will be telling us about the exciting recent maritime discoveries at Seasalter and Tankerton. One definitely not to miss, and if you know of anyone who may be interested to find out more about these discoveries, please do invite them along too.

2. For your diaries, our AGM will be at the Castle on Wed 17th February at 7.15pm. This is when a new committee will be elected and February is when membership renewals for 2018 become due, please. Further details to follow.

3. The ‘Paddock’ Public Inquiry starts next Tuesday. Like the Thanet Way Residents Association, the WS objects strongly to development of this Protected Open Space beside the Thanet Way at the top of Millstrood Road. Following CCC Planning committee rejection of the revised application, the applicants (Quinn Estates & George Wilson Developments) applied to appeal in June 2017.  The Public Inquiry date has now been set and will commence at the Guildhall Canterbury CT1 2JQ (beside Westgate Towers) on Tuesday 9 January 2018 at 10am. It  is scheduled to take place over 4 days, although it may be concluded sooner.

The appeal documents can be inspected on the Council’s website at www.canterbury.gov.uk/planning.

Application ref: 16/02269 Appellants name: Quinn Estates & George Wilson Developments. Appeal ref: W/17/3175031

Inspector, John Selgate, has been appointed by the Secretary of State to determine this appeal.

The Whitstable Society will be speaking strongly against the appeal, and support at the appeal by Society members and others will be very helpful, especially on the first day.
